Thoughts and Introspection- 02-Feb.-2009
Comparison with others is an inherent quality of lower mind. This is the main cause of all the conflicts and problems. In our day to day life most of the time we used to compare ourselves with others and especially most often this happens in our official environment. When my colleague does not do anything and just passes time in office hours and at the same time I used to struggle a lot to get the things moving, then in most of the time some sort of anger or depression comes into the mind and sometimes also that express it in outward activities. I was observing the same situation today and was trying to control my restlessness. But if we take the case of our family life the equation is altogether different. Mother used to work hard and never complains. Even she may not think for a fraction of second that she is working hard and doing some favour to other family members. What’s the difference then in both of the situations? In one case we used to compare and in another that becomes a so motto responsibility. I think in one case the work is imposed on us forcefully and in other we enjoy the work. In our family life the binding force that always exists is love and affection. That only makes our working as well as life beautiful. We have to bring the same love and affection into our office atmosphere and through that only proceed further.
But there is another important thing which we to always remember is the aim and objective of our present birth. Until we establish contact with our central being, i.e., the psychic being, we have to consider each and every happenings in our life as a stepping stone for moving forward and serving the Divine.
It is said that before taking a new birth the soul decides the type of experience it is going to experience in the forthcoming life and accordingly chooses the environment, place, parents, country etc. ho will be conducive for achieving that goal. After birth eventually we forget everything because here everything has to be started from scratch once again. ..birth, childhood, youth....all the stages of life. Generally the soul creates enough situations and gives us enormous hints so that we can be able to know our true self. If we remain conscious and open ourselves to the Divine Grace then in the course of our journey we experience so many beautiful things and the purpose of the birth becomes successful. We start living our life as an offering and sacrifice to the Divine. The distinction between egoistic desire and an aspiration for the higher life becomes clearly visible to us. Sri Aurobindo in his divinely words reminds the same thing to us various times.
“If you want to be a true doer of divine works, your first aim must be to be totally free from all desire and self regarding ego. All your life must be an offering and a sacrifice to the Supreme; .......... You must grow in the divine consciousness till there is no difference between your will and hers, no motive except her impulsion in you, no action that is not her conscious action in you and though you.
Until you are capable of this complete dynamic identification, you have to regard yourself as a soul and body created for her service, one who does all for her sake. Even if the idea of the separate worker is strong in you and you feel that it is you who do the work, yet it must be done for her...” - Sri Aurobindo (Book- The Mother, Chapter- V)
As the ego sense is very much active in me and I feel in most of the cases that I am indispensable, this simply further boost my ego. Ego always tries to compare and wants to prove its greatness.
Every individual has come to this earth for some specific purpose. Why should I except that what I am doing is the best and everybody will follow me. I have to constantly monitor this idea of separateness in me and offer it to the Divine.
O my Sweet Lord, Eternal Truth, Let Thy will be done.
